About us

Our story began with a phone call.

It started the way it starts for most families. A phone call from a parent who sounded fine but wasn't. The fridge was emptier than it should have been. The walks had stopped. The neighbours hadn't seen her in a while. Everything was technically okay, but nothing was actually okay.

We looked for help. Not medical care (she didn't need a nurse). Not a retirement home (she wasn't ready). Just someone to show up, check in, bring her to the grocery store, sit and talk. Someone who would notice what we couldn't see from a distance.

That person didn't exist. Not reliably, not affordably, not in a way that gave us any visibility into what was happening. So we built it.

Our mission

We exist because no one should eat lunch alone every day.

Halekin is a companion-care platform for Canadian families. We match your aging parent with a vetted, trained companion (we call them Kin) who visits weekly for non-medical companionship and light household help. You see everything: visit summaries, home observations, photos with consent. Your parent gets a friend. You get peace of mind.

What we believe

We’re guests in someone’s home.

Every Kin walks into a space that belongs to someone else. That shapes everything: how we hire, how we train, how we build the product. Respect comes before efficiency.

Connection, not service.

We’re not delivering a package. The visit is the product, and the relationship is the outcome. A good Kin isn’t someone who completes tasks. It’s someone your parent looks forward to seeing.

The family should see everything.

After every visit, the family gets a summary: what happened, how their parent seemed, anything they should know about the home. No black boxes. You shouldn’t have to wonder.

Safety is non-negotiable.

Vulnerable Sector Checks for every Kin. GPS check-in at every visit. Commercial liability insurance. On-call incident response. We earn trust by being transparent about how we protect the people who matter to you.

The team

Halekin is a small team based in Ontario, building the companion-care platform we wish had existed when our own families needed it. We’re not a healthcare company and we’re not a tech company. We’re a care company that builds good software.
